Selling it at Gen Con Indy

Well not really selling “it”, but selling your ideas on gaming… Gen Con Indy is coming up here August 13 -16th and if you are planning on attending, especially if you have an idea you want to pitch to one (or many) of the gazzilion or so vendors, artists, or developers at the Con, you should really check out the great four part series that award winning author, writer, and game designer Jess Hartley has posted on her website. Some really honest and practical tips about how to make the most of the convention, promote your idea, and leave them wanting more!

Best Plan Ever!

Just received the project plan from Topher for this weeks big Tek roll-out here at the county. A lot of it is highly technical, some is just putting the right folks in the right places at the right time but my favorite part is the end:
“We will be treated as great gods and the users will carry us around on their shoulders while they shower us with flowers and candy and sing our praises from the mountain tops.”

That is the best plan ever!!!

Voting has Started!

If your a geek like me you know all about GENcon, but do you know about the ENnies ?

The ENnies are, arguably, the gaming industry’s biggest and most prestigious fan awards and anyone can vote! You don’t have to be attending GENcon.

Well, Jess’ work “The Rose Brides Plight” is in the running this year under ‘Category and Product: Best Adventure’.

There is an excellent review here at Flames Rising

There are a lot of other amazing works on tap in many many categories as well.  So go take a look and cast your vote [HERE]

Do it for the geek in all of us…

Workout Movies

I have a small TV and DVD player in the Batcave so I can watch movies during my workouts. This week I am watching “Silverado”, a wonderful Western with excellent modern pacing and a very nice cast.
In the past few weeks I have seen:
– Band of Brothers (Series)
– Memphis Bell
– League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
And my all time favorite workout movie, the extended edition of “Conan the Barbarian”

Haven’t decided what to watch next week. Maybe I’ll try another series. Maybe “Rome” or “Deadwood”.

Back at Work

First week back from vacation. Things at work are good if you ignore the almost fist-fight at the office while I was gone… Jeeze people, relax and behave like pros would ya?

Anyway, held my full staff meeting this week and we are doing good as a group. Still a lot of concern over the State’s budget, but I know we will get by.

Monsoon is in full force and we are getting the brunt of the outages. You stick a 100′ metal radio tower on a 7’000 foot peak, and ya know, its gonna get hit with lightning during a thunderstorm… I am just saying.

Its the weekend now and I am looking forward to catching up a bit around the house. May even post some photos of the storms this weekend.

Vacation Report So Far…

Not too many calls from work, sleeping in ’till 7:30  and hanging out with the girls. Even survived taking the daughter and three friends to the Mall today!

Been working on my truck which is a 2002 Nissan Xterra and am really enjoying getting my knuckles scraped again. Discovered a great group of folks at Club Xterra and posted the link over on the left. If you own an X I highly recommend them as a great community willing to help with all manner of questions. They really know there stuff!

Anyway, tomorrow we are heading to Tucson to spend a couple days there at my favorite resort. Lots of swimming and eating,  games and just lying in the sun reading. Sounds perfect!

It is vacation time!

This is my first vacation since I started the job nearly two years ago. I actually am off for 11 days and plan to relax and enjoy my time!

This is how tek support works…

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair. – Douglas Adams

Monsoon Season Pics

Just a couple pics from our back yard. The first is the monsoon clouds building out in Mexico and the second is just a snap of the moon after the storm.

Sunday Hikes

I took the Valkyrie and her friend the ever delightful Ms M. up to the Chiricahua National Monument in the North East part of the County this last weekend to do a little exploring.

We spent the morning in the Monument and then trekked over the mountain to the town of Portal on the East side of the range where we had lunch and then drove back watching the antelope on the New Mexico grasslands.

We had a grand time and have vowed to go back again just as soon as possible! If you would like to check out the pics, you can find them [HERE]

All in all a wonderfully delightful Sunday.
